Haila Al-Mekaimi is a senior adviser for the Kuwaiti Union for Women’s NGOS. She is also Professor of Political Science at Kuwait University, College of Social Sciences and Head of the Euro-Gulf Research Unit at Kuwait University. She received her Ph.D in Political Science from Boston College and her MA in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, where she also earned her diploma in Jewish Studies and the Hebrew language.

From 2013 until 2017 Haila served as Undersecretary for the Ministry of Information. She is a columnist for al-Nahar, daily local newspaper in Kuwait; she also writes for the newspaper al-sharq al-awsat.
