Zirahuén Villamar

Born in Mexico City, Zirahuén attained a BA in economics at the National University of Mexico and a doctoral degree in political science from the Freie Universität Berlin. He currently serves as a diplomat at the Mexican Embassy in Berlin.

His professional path includes the academic, think-tank and diplomatic fields in Mexico and Germany. As a scholar, Zirahuén’s academic interests are foreign policy analysis, international political economy and global governance, with a geographical emphasis on Mexico-Latin America and Germany-Europe. The perspectives of the Global South and the cooperation with transnational actors are significant interests in his work.

As a person committed to progressive politics, Zirahuén is willing to engage in constructive dialogue with individuals and institutions from different backgrounds in order to learn from them and, based on an honest exchange of ideas and deep context understanding, to work together with them towards positive changes in organisations/societies.
