MSC: “Bigger than Us” Film Screening

Gender Equality, Human Rights and Migration

Alongside the Munich Security Conference from 17th to 19th February, Goals House hosted a screening of the film “Bigger than Us” on Friday, 20th February. GDL member Eirliani Abdul Rahman moderated a discussion surrounding it.

“Bigger than Us” is a documentary film directed by Flore Vasseur. It follows seven young people around the world who risk their own lives so people around them have access to food, shelter, gender equality, freedom of speech, a clean environment and safety. One of them is Mohamad Al Jounde, a Syrian refugee, who, at the age of 12, built a school in a Lebanese refugee camp.

The key message of the film: Stability and security of our future depends on the young. After an initial video message from Director Flore, Eirliani facilitated the conversation and Q&A afterward the screening. Mohamad Al Jounde, the protagonist of the documentary, joined the session online. The Q&A was mainly centred around the topic of the important role youth has to play in fighting for security, addressing polarisation and Mohamad’s journey from Syria to Sweden.

The Screening served as a kick-off for the international tour of “Bigger Than Us”. Fellow member Shota Bukoshi also attended the screening.
