Born in Ljubljana (1968), Anja Fabiani first finished university and then completed a Master’s degree (on the subject of sociology and New Europe,) followed by a PhD on Soft/Smart Power and Leadership (2014) at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. She published a book on Smart Power and Leadership in 2017 (in English, publisher: South-East University Tetovo).
Since 2007, she has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. She is temporarily working at the Department for Multilateral Affairs, covering specialised Agencies of UNO, including WHO. She worked abroad at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to NATO.
As Anja identifies with the idea of Western liberal democracies as the crucial segment of contemporary societies, she was a proactive member of the liberal European affiliation ALDE, defending the human rights of minorities.
She has also written for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and was active in defending the democratisation of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Her personal interests are travelling, arts, reading, sports and, nature. She likes to engage in philanthropy.
